Finally, a Rhinegeist beer! I had been waiting for a long time to try beer from Cincinnati's Rhinegeist (which means "spirit of the Rhine" in German), but I could not ever find any. Last October, I was in Nashville with my son to watch my beloved New England Patriots defeat the Tennessee Titans. After the game, we stopped by Five Points Pizza for a few slices and beer (well, root beer for my son, but it was an Abita!).
They had a Rhinegeist beer on tap! It was their Bubbles Rosé Fruited Ale, and I almost ordered it, but I did not want my first Rhinegeist beer to be a fruit beer. Not that I have anything against fruit beers, I happen to love them, but I just didn’t want this one at that time. Of course, I might have pulled the trigger anyway, but they also had Von Trapp Vienna on tap, and though I had had Von Trapp beers before, I had never had draft Von Trapp, so the decision was made.
Fast forward to early 2026, and there I was at Taco Mac! Guess what? They had a Rhinegeist beer on tap! And it was Bubbles Rosé Fruited Ale! I still did not want that to be my first Rhinegeist beer, and at this point maybe I should have ordered it. But they had some very tasty beers on tap. The first was Bell's Oberon Eclipse Raspberry, and I know you are thinking hey Bruguru you idiot, that’s a fruit beer too, but Bell’s was beer of the month, and they had a really cool glass giveaway with a Bell’s beer purchase. The other two beers I drank were a Deschutes Black Butte XXXVI Imperial Porter, and I don’t think I need to tell you why I ordered that, and a Hop Butcher for The World Twilight to Starlight Double IPA, and I had never had a beer from that brewery before.
Poor Rhinegeist Bubbles Rosé Fruited Ale. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.
The good news was, though, that seeing that beer on tap at Taco Mac meant Rhinegeist beers were now in Georgia, and I had high hopes of finding more of their beer here, or maybe just having an opportunity when the Bubbles Rosé Fruited Ale seemed like the right thing to do. It happened in late April, when I saw cans of Rhinegeist Truth India Pale Ale at Kroger. This made a lot of sense since both Kroger and Rhinegeist are based in Cincinnati.
About Rhinegeist Brewing Company
Rhinegeist Brewery has been one of the Midwest's most influential craft breweries since opening in 2013. BLocated in Cincinnati’s historic Over-the-Rhine district, the brewery transformed a massive pre‑Prohibition bottling plant.
Tasting Notes
Rhinegeist Truth India Pale Ale pours to a clear straw color with a thick fluffy white head and a nose of earthy herbal hops. Taking a sip, the beer is light to medium in body, then pops with lemony, grapefruity, herbal earthy and grassy bitter hops. The hops linger long and dry and bitter in the finish and I just love this beer.
Value & Verdict
I snapped up a 19.2-ounce can for $4, which seemed like a good deal. Total Wine has it listed for $10.99 a six-pack of 12-ounce cans in their Brentwood, Tennessee location. It’s an even better deal in their Lexington, Kentucky store where it currently sells for $18.99 a 12-pack. The beer has an alcohol content of 7.2% by volume, 75 IBUs and my can is stamped CANNED O2/03/26 on the bottom.
Welcome to Guruofbrew.com, Rhinegeist. We’re glad to have you, and hope to see you again soon.
