Blanche de Nashville
Review Date 7/19/2024 By John Staradumsky
I had never tried Yazoo Blanche de Nashville before. This is a Belgian style witbier brewed in Nashville by Yazoo in collaboration with Brooklyn brewing, and inspired by their own Blanche de Brooklyn. I have enjoyed the latter, but never reviewed it. I need to get to the bottom of that.
I love Yazoo and can say unequivocally they are one of my favorite Tennessee breweries. They are no stranger to wheat beers, either, and if you don’t believe me (and even if you do), go get yourself some Yazoo Hefeweizen. You’ll be glad you did. That, of course, is a German style unfiltered wheat beer.
Yazoo says on the Blanche de Nashville, on the label:
Brewed with our friend Garrett Oliver of the Brooklyn Brewery, where Linus interned in the summer of 2001. This Belgian-style Wit Beer is brewed with wheat, spiced with orange peel, coriander, and chamomile, and fermented with a special Belgian yeast. The net proceeds from this brew will benefit the MJF scholarships for nrewing and distilling. [www.themjf.org].
The Linus they refer to is none other than Linus Hall, who founded Yazoo in 2003 as the first brewery to operate in Nashville since Prohibition.
Yazoo Blanche de Nashville has an alcohol content of 5% by volume and I paid $2.79 for a single from Total Wine. It was selling for $10.99 a six-pack at the time.
Yazoo Blanche de Nashville pours to a cloudy yellow white color with a respectable but short-lived head and a nose of tart wheat and spicy coriander. Taking a sip, the beer is light to medium in body apropos to the style. It’s crackery with wheat up front, and pops with vibrant coriander spice and bright citrus peel. It finishes tart wheaty and dry with spice and is super refreshing.
Perfect with barbecue chicken, smoked sausage, corn on the cob and potato salad.
Glad I tried it? T
Would I rebuy it??
