Rollin' Deep Cinnamon Roll Stout
Review Date 12/19/2018 By John Staradumsky
So this happened: I was in Total Wine on Black Friday as I am normally wont to be, and what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a glorious display of holiday beer. Amongst those were six-packs of Wild Leap Rollin’ Deep Cinnamon Roll Stout, and I immediately dropped one into my cart.
I’m assuming that this is Wild Leap’s winter seasonal release. I don’t see that they have any others, and they do say this about the beer:
Rollin’ Deep is best enjoyed while wearing your favorite cozy flannel, sitting fireside with friends.
Rollin’ Deep is a sweet, sticky stout made with rich caramel, chocolate malts and cinnamon. For that fresh-from-a-food-court, piping hot, sticky bun flavor.
Wild Leap Rollin’ Deep Cinnamon Roll Stout has an alcohol content of 8.5% by volume with 40 IBUs. My only quibble was the price; at $13.99 a six-pack it’s at least $4 more than it should be.
Wild Leap Rollin’ Deep Cinnamon Roll Stout, stout pours to a dark brownish black (but not opaque) color with a thin creamy tan head on a vigorous pour and a robust cinnamon spice nose. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body with layers of roast and soft caramel intertwined with swirls of spicy cinnamon. That is reminiscent of a hot cinnamon bun, perhaps followed by a quick sip of coffee (the roast). The beer is remarkably smooth, with chocolate poking through as it warms, a hint of roast at the last, a lot more of the dry cinnamon spice in there, and warming alcohol rounding it all out.
Impressive! I enjoyed this beer a lot. Would I buy it again? I would, though at the price, probably a little less often than I might otherwise. I’ll give it 4 stars hedonistically and for style (a spiced beer) with a half star demerit for the overpricing.
Glad I tried it? T
Would I rebuy it??
