So hey there beer lovers, if you’ve read my review of Wild Heaven Peach Gose then you know that for July of 2016, Wild Heaven beers are featured this month at Taco Mac. Two of the four highlighted beers are IPAs, one a regular member of the Wild Heaven Lineup (Wise Blood IPA) and the other a collaboration beer called Wild Heaven Escape Velocity IPA. That’s the beer I’m sipping right now.
Wild Heaven Escape Velocity IPA is a collaboration beer with Pawnville Brewing of Suwanee, Georgia. Now, I’d never heard of Pawnville Brewing before. They have a Facebook page (I couldn’t find a website) and describe themselves as follows:
Pawnville Brewing is a Nano Brewery specializing in quality craft beer – home of the Award Winning Golden Pawn Pale Ale, and the Escape Velocity IPA
That same page says they were founded in 2013 and our biggest success to date has been winning the 2015 Southern Home Brewers Challenge hosted by Taco Mac and Jekyll Brewing. Our Golden Pawn Pale Ale won the contest and is being served in all the Atlanta area Taco Macs in the Month of March.
Somehow I missed that one. At any rate, we wish them luck if they decide to become a commercial brewing operation, and if their Escape Velocity IPA is any indication, they’ll brew some great beers indeed. But for now, it’s Wild Heaven Escape Velocity IPA.
Wild Heaven Escape Velocity IPA has an alcohol content of 6.7% by volume and I paid $6.50 for a full mug pour. With a free pint glass, what a buy, what a bargain shoppers!
That mug of Wild Heaven Escape Velocity IPA arrived a bright orange amber color with a medium head of creamy foam and a lush tropical fruity nose. Taking a sip, I get medium caramel malt, resiny pine, grapefruit peel, and passion fruit in the palate. It’s all punctuated out with a grassy dry bitterness.
They call this an American IPA, but it needs more malt for that. Still, there is a good fusion of modern and classic hops here, and I enjoyed the beer.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
