It’s Thursday, December 6th 2018 and that means it’s time for a new featured brewery pint night at Taco Mac! This time around the beers of Wicked Weed are featured, so every Thursday night you’ll get a free Wicked Weed logo glass with a purchase. I bought a mug of Wicked Weed Hop Cocoa Porter, and boy was that a great decision.
Now I know, some beer enthusiasts don’t buy Wicked Weed beers anymore because Anheuser-Busch bought them out. I loved the brewery before the buyout, and I love it still. The quality of the beers has not changed one iota, and Wicked Weed Hop Cocoa Porter is a good testament to that fact.
Wicked Weed Hop Cocoa has an alcohol content of 6.5% by volume and I paid $6.80 for my 23-ounce mug at Taco Mac. That included a free Hop Cocoa logo glass. It sells for $12.99 a 6-pack in bottles at Total Wine.
From the label:
We crafted Hop Cocoa Brown to be a smooth porter that packs a potent chocolate punch into every sip. Authentic Dutch cocoa powder combines with robust, dark cocoa nibs from our neighbors at French Broad Chocolate Lounge to create a silky smooth balance with our heavy handed hopping process. This dark beauty is a comforting companion at the end or beginning, of any day! *Marshmallows not included.
My mug of Wicked Weed Hop Cocoa Porter arrived jet-black in color with a moderate sized head of creamy tan foam and a big powdery cocoa nose. Taking a sip I got a full body with more cocoa and roasted barley in the palate all leading into a smooth and easy drinking finish. Where are the hops? They show up sharp and slightly bitter at the last.
Wicked Weed Hop Cocoa Porter is tasty indeed with all the cocoa notes the name implies, and of course the hops, too. It’s a bit pricey in cans, but the draft price was about average these days.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
