Every year for their birthday, Westbrook Brewing of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, releases a specialty brew. It may be their birthday, but you get the present-at least I did when I picked up a bottle of Westbrook 8th Anniversary Pecan Cookie Stout, an imperial stout with pecans, winter spices, and vanilla. I see these only intermittently (the last one I enjoyed was the 5th Anniversary Chocolate Raspberry Imperial Stout. They don’t specify the spices on the label of this year's version, but I picked them out correctly while drinking (yay me!) as we shall soon see.

Westbrook says:

For our 8th anniversary beer we created a chocolately pecan cookie in beer form. Roasted pecans, winter spices, and vanilla blend with dark roasted malts and candi syrup for a decadent dessert delight. Released December 2018.

And indeed I did buy this at Target about a year or so ago for $8.54. The beer has an alcohol content of 9% by volume. Mine was bottled on 12/3/2018.

Ingredients from the website:

CHINOOK HOPS

AMERICAN ALE YEAST

CHOCOLATE, DARK CRYSTAL, OATS, PALE, ROASTED BARLEY MALT

CINNAMON, NUTMEG, PECANS, VANILLA ADJUNCTS

Westbrook 8th Anniversary Pecan Cookie Stout pours to a jet black color with a thick creamy tan head and a roasty nose laced with soft nutty notes. Taking a sip, the beer is smooth and dark roasty malty in the palate with notes of nutmeg and cinnamon, vanilla marshmallow, hints of molasses, and lots of fresh hulled pecans. The pecans definitely shine through and the beer finishes warming with alcohol and is balanced but not hoppy.

A delicious big birthday cookie of a beer. The pecans really popped here, which is what I want in a beer like this. You could call this a spiced beer, or a fruit/nut beer, or just an imperial stout. I will go with spiced, since all the flavors work so nicely together to define the beer.

Here’s looking forward to the 9th Anniversary brew, which should be released soon.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
