As a really great pilsner should have a
pronounced
hop
character, so should a classic Munich Helles stress the malt. This is
certainly the case for Corolla Gold, an excellent example of the style from
this Manteo, North
Carolina brewer specializing in German style lagers. The
malt palate is crisp and biscuity in this lightly carbonated golden lager,
like chewing a handful of fresh pilsner malt. The hop bite in the finish is
subtle and balancing, making this beer easily quaffable and very delicious.
A superb Helles by any measure.
Although the above label graphic indicates the beer is a pilsner, both this year's label and the beer itself indicate a helles by style.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
