Just
paid $8.99 today to visit an old friend, Watney's Cream Stout. I poured a
bottle in my glass, and it didn't seem right: the creaminess and rich
mouthfeel were missing, the only thing really going on was a touch of
licorice and coffee. Now, I have a cold that may be influencing me,
but I
still don't think this is as good as the original (after reading the back I
discovered WCS is now contract brewed at Sleeman in Canada.) I guess I've
lost my old friend, and I can't understand why they're getting $9 a six for
this beer if it's coming from Canada. I seem to recall paying less when it
was coming from England.
Watney’s Cream Stout, the real English stuff, has always been one of my very favorite beers. So sad to see it gone, seemingly never to return. I’m leaving it at 5 stars in remembrance of its original creamy, gently roasty glory.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
