Yowza! The deep brown color of this beer and thick, rocky tan head tell me that we have something akin to a dubbel here. Nice malty nose loaded with those Belgian yeasty-beasty notes that just pulls you in and won't let go. My dubbel suspicions are confirmed when I take a long draught, this beer is extremely nutty-malty with deep yeasty flavors, though it seems much sweeter than most of the dubbels I'm familiar with. Interestingly, the finish is almost tripel-like in it's sweetness. Combined with the malt notes I believe that sweetness would make Vondel a fine Dessert beer. A touch of alcohol warmth caresses the palate for a delightful finish. Truly a wonderful brew!
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
