My first beer from Richmond, Virginia’s The Veil Brewing Company: Master Shredder Wheat India Pale Ale, one of those new-fangled hazy “New England IPAs”. At least I think so. The Veil does not have much information on its website about its beers. They do not sell their beers in Georgia, but I got a can from beer legend Chuck Triplett.
The Veil says this about their brewing operation on their website:
Welcome to The Veil Brewing Co. We are a craft brewery located in the Scott's Addition neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia. We focus on hop forward beers, high gravity and barrel aging, lagers, wild ales, and spontaneous fermentation. We are dedicated to quality and strive to provide a unique experience through our beers and our tasting room.
According to the can, Master Shredder IPA has an alcohol content of 5.5% by volume. Low for an IPA folks. That’s all I know.
The Veil Master Shredder Wheat India Pale Ale pours to a hazy orange color with a thick rocky head of foam and a rather herbal oregano and citrus nose. Taking a sip, I get some big juicy notes of orange and grapefruit, a little resin, and then the spicy herbal oregano. The finish is long, dry and bitter.
Very nice and refreshing, but more of an American Pale Ale than an IPA in my book. Refer to it as a wheat APA and we’ll call it a day. Whatever you call it, I enjoyed it, and it’s very drinkable indeed.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
