Ok2berfest Marzen Style Lager

There are really two times of year that I look forward to the most: fall and Thanksmas. This holds true overall and in a beery sense as well. In the fall, there are all of those wonderful pumpkin beers (an original American style) and of course Oktoberfest brews. For Thanksmas (the period running from Thanksgiving through Christmas and into the New Year) there are delightful holiday and winter seasonal beers. What’s not to love?

First, though, comes fall, and around August the pumpkin and Oktoberfest beers start arriving on store shelves. I usually make a big sweep looking for these beers locally, but I also ordered some from Craftshack this year. Among the latter was a can of Two Roads Ok2berfest Marzen Style Lager from the Two Roads brewery of Stratford, Connecticut.

From the brewery website:

Released in early August in 16 oz cans, six pack 12 oz bottles and draft

Modeled after the classic “Marzenbier,” Oktoberfest style that was traditionally the beer served at the Munich Oktoberfest. It possesses a smooth, toasty malt profile with a crisp character of traditional German hops.

Two Roads Ok2berfest Marzen Style Lager has an alcohol content of 5.8% by volume and I paid $3.87 for my can from Craftshack. Total Wine sells it for $9.99 the 4-pack of pint cans, but not in Georgia. My can is stamped BBE 04FEB22.

Two Roads Ok2berfest Marzen Style Lager pours to a bright orange amber color with a thick fluffy white head and a nose of lightly toasted malt. Taking a sip, the beer is light to medium in body with light toasty nutty notes, a hint of caramel, and a gently balanced finish. This one is a little on the light side for a Marzen for me, and I think it could use more melanoidins.

I have high standards for Oktobefest Marzens, with Paulaner Oktoberfest setting the bar for all others. Still, I would buy Two Roads Ok2berfest Marzen Style Lager again. You should buy it, too.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
