Tucktoberfest

Not so long ago, I enjoyed a crowler of Southern Heaven Hefeweizen from the Tucker Brewing Company of Tucker, Georgia. Hopping on over to the website, I noticed that they specialize in German beers! German beer is my favorite beer of all, and if I had to pick one country from all the world and drink only its beer for the rest of my life, I would pick Germany.

Fortunately, I do not have to do that. While I was enjoying my clovey hefeweizen and browsing the brewery’s website and noticed they would soon be releasing Tucktoberfest, their version of a Marzen lager. A few weeks ago, I scored a six-pack from Total Wine.

Tucker says:

Traditionally served at Oktoberfest, märzen is a classic, amber-colored lager beer. Our Tucktoberfest Märzen Lager has a solid caramel malt backbone, but is crisp to taste. Bready nose with toasty malt notes and a slightly floral aroma. Find it at restaurants and retailers across Atlanta for a limited time. Prost!

Tucktoberfest Marzen Lager has an alcohol content of 5.4% by volume with 35 IBUs. I paid $11.99 for my six-pack, a little higher than the norm these days, but not by much. My cans are stamped Best by 12/19/20.

Tucktoberfest Marzen Lager pours to a deep amber color with a medium sized head of fizzy foam that fades quickly and a delightful toasty nutty malt nose. Taking a sip, the beer is rich and malty, medium in body with deep melanoidin toasty nutty malt notes. It finishes rich with malt, nutty Munich malt, and a dash of hop bitterness to balance it nicely.

A solid 4 1/2 star beer for the style, perhaps the best example of the style brewed in Georgia this year. Well done Tucker brewing! Now when are you gonna brew a doppelbock?

Update 8/31/2023: Hit up Total Wine the other day to see what fall beers (Oktoberfest and Pumpkin) were in stock, and was not disappointed. In the midst of a large display of such brews (which was not quite as large after I took a number of them home with me) were cases and cases of my beloved Tucker Tucktobefest. I ended up buying two six-packs this year, it is so good, perhaps better than ever. The beer simply bursts with toasty nutty melanoidin goodness, and I even enjoyed a full liter plus of it in my newly acquired Tucker Mass. The beer cost me the same $11.99 a six-pack it did three years ago.
