This is one hell of an Imperial Stout, but don't look for it on your retailer's shelves anytime soon. If you want to try this beer, you have to come to Providence. Trinity Brewpub has won awards for their Imperial Stout, and it's no small wonder. It's a fantastic brew. There is hope on the horizon for all of you non-Rhode Islander's though, as a recent law was passed here allowing the off-premises sale of kegged brewpub product, which could pave the way for out of state export as well.
Trinity's Imperial Stout is unfiltered, hopped with East Kent Goldings, and weighs in at 70 IBU's and 7-8% alcohol by volume. Jet black in color, this beer has a rich, malty nose and a palate packed with strong overtones of licorice and chocolate. Hints of roasted malt and coffee are also present, as well as an omnipresent and lingering alcohol warmth and bitter hop sensation in the finish. A rarely equaled brew.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
