Maho Bay Double IPA

Score! I got another Rhode Island beer from Half Time, in the same shopping trip as when I also bought a can of Whalers Rise American Pale Ale. The fine brew I am here to tell you about today, though, is from the Tilted Barn brewery of Exeter, Rhode Island: Maho Bay Double IPA. When I lived in the Ocean State, Exeter wasn’t far from me, but then no two places in Rhode Island are really far apart.

Tilted Barn self describes:

Located in our authentic, New England-style post and beam barn, we are proud to be Rhode Island’s first farm brewery. A visit to Tilted Barn allows you to sit back and relax while off the beaten path, and enjoy the fruits of our labor. Our small batch, hand-crafted ales are best enjoyed fresh so be sure to make the trek early and often for a true farm-to-pint experience.

And about the beer, from the label:

Maho Bay is a double IPA bursting with pineapple and tropical fruit flavors and aromas. Reminiscent of one of our favorite turtle spotting beaches on St. John. Maho Bay is extremely well balanced with a surprisingly subtle 8.2% ABV. Enjoy this one slow, you’re on island time!

I paid $6.99 for my pint can of Maho Bay from Half Time. I have no other pricing information, and I do not set pricing data here on Guruofbrew.com based on singles, so there you go. My can was stamped CANNED ON 05/28/24 RAISE THE BARN.

Tilted Barn Maho Bay pours to a hazy yellow orange color with a thick fluffy white head and a nose of lush citrus and tropical fruit. Indeed, the aromas of grapefruit and pineapple wafted across my desk as I decanted the liquid into my glass. Taking a sip, the beer is light to medium in body, par for the course as these hazy New England IPAs go. The taste is a little different, though, as it simply screams fresh squeezed grapefruit juice at you, with a little pith and peel thrown in for a good measure. The tropical fruit I got in the nose is simply overpowered in the palate. The beer finishes intensely bitter, gently minty but also with grapefruit rind.

This is outstanding, and would be  a staple in my beer fridge if I still lived in Rhode Island.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
