Loopy Oatmeal is only the second beer I’ve tried from Three Heads. The Kind IPA has the honor of being the first. Anyway, Loopy Oatmeal is not listed as a regular brew on the Three Heads website, but apparently they do bottle it. A label that I’ve seen says this about the beer:
WE LOVE HOPS! Their tantalizing aromas! Their diverse and succulent flavors of citrus and spice. All the amazing ways they can be used in brewing. 3HB dedicates the Loopy to our favorite plant, the Humulus Lupulus. Enjoy the waves of tropical fruit intertwined delightfully with a creamy, velvety malt blend. Come get loopy with us!
Three Heads beers are currently contract brewed at Custom Brewcrafters in Honeoye Falls, New York. Three Heads Loopy Oatmeal has an alcohol content of 7% by volume listed on the label, though Taco Mac gave the draft ABV as 6.6%. IBUs are given as 64. I paid $7 for a 20-ounce mug at Taco Mac.
My mug of Three Heads Loopy Oatmeal Red Ale arrived a murky amber in color with a light head of very creamy foam. Sticking my nose where is definitely belongs, I get waves of passion fruity hop aroma in the nose, followed by chewy malt with silky smooth oats in the palate, some pasty grainy oat notes, more of the passion fruit, citrusy grapefruit and resin all smashing together in the end.
What an interesting beer! I very much enjoyed Loopy Oatmeal, and I’ll be on the lookout for a bottle to take home and enjoy for sure.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
