Thirsty Dog Rise of Mayan Dog! What’s that all about? The name Mayan Dog alludes to the honey and cocoa nibs used in the brewing of the beer. What’s the rise all about though? Let’s check the label:
Celebrate the new rise of civilization with this bittersweet, big, bold, black beer filled with old world and traditional spices, including honey and cocoa nibs.
OK…I’m not sure what new rise of civilization they’re talking about, but hey, the beer is pretty good, so who cares? This much I do know:
Thirsty Dog Rise of Mayan Dog has an alcohol content of 7% by volume with 35 IBUs. It’s not sold in Georgia, but I got a bottle from the one and only Dave Coulter.
Thirsty Dog Rise of Mayan Dog pours to a jet-black color with a thick creamy tan head and a rich roasty nose. Taking a sip, the beer is full and lush with roasted dark chocolate notes. The honey adds richness and body if not flavor, and the beer finishes a bit grassy hoppy and roasty bitter. Very tasty indeed, a solid roasty American stout.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
