Terrapin Single Origin Coffee Stout Guatemala Huehuetenango

Review Date 9/7/2016 By John Staradumsky

OK, so back in 2016 I bought a 4-pack of coffee stouts from Terrapin. Each of them was brewed with a different coffee blend, but all the coffee roasts came from Jittery Joes Coffee Roasters of Athens, Georgia, where Terrapin just happens to be located. I drank one almost immediately, Terrapin Single Origin Coffee Stout Sumatra Wahana Natural, and as to the others, well, for whatever reason they got lost in my various beer fridges.

The other beers in the 4-pack included one with coffee beans from Ethiopia, one from Hawaii, and one that I just found in my garage beer fridge and am about to drink tonight: Terrapin Single Origin Coffee Stout Guatemala Huehuetenango.

Terrapin says:

A unique opportunity to taste four distinct single origin coffees from around the world each brewed with the same base stout. Sold as a mixed four

pack.

Ingredients for the base stout:

HOPS: Nugget

MALT: 2-Row, Crystal 85, Flaked Barley, Flaked Oats,Chocolate, Blackprinz, Midnight Wheat, Black, Roasted Barley

Terrapin Single Origin Coffee Stout Guatemala Huehetnamngo has an alcohol content of 5.7% by volume with 30 IBUs (both the same as the

Sumatra). I paid $12.99 for my 4-pack, and I actually bought a few extras to send to friends. One of my complaints about Terrapin is that their prices

sometimes run high, but I don’t think this price is exorbitant for 4 different beers in one 4-pack. Huehetnamngo is a city in Guatemala. I did not know

this; I had to Bing it. Beer makes you smarter, you see.

Terrapin Single Origin Coffee Stout Guatemala Huehuetenango pours to a jet-black color with a thick creamy tan head and a rich roasty black coffee nose. Taking a sip, the beer is medium to full in body with wonderful black coffee notes, hints of coffee grind, black pepper, spicy peppers, and a roasty bitter finish.

Folks, Terrapin is two for two on these beers, and I am on a hunt through my beer fridge to find the other two. Terrapin Single Origin Coffee Stout Guatemala Huehuetenango has aged so well I daresay it is better now that it was fresh (probably). It certainly was a treat, a beautiful coffee stout bursting with coffee (and with stout). I would certainly buy it again, if Terrapin decides to brew it again.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
