Spaceman Spliff India Pale Ale
Review Date 8/27/2024 By John Staradumsky
Remember Spaceman Spiff? I sure do. He was a fixture in the old Calvin and Hobbs comic strips, an alter ego of Calvin as he hunted for aliens with his trusty Atomic Napalm Neutralizer. Of course, Calvin might be a little older these days, and maybe he drinks beer? If so, I’m sure he would enjoy Spaceman Spliff India Pale Ale from the Sycamore Brewing Company of Charlotte, North Carolina.
The more beers I drink from Sycamore the more I really love this brewery. Mountain Candy IPA is still my favorite, and I will say they do make a lot of IPAs, but doesn’t everybody these days? Still, Spaceman Spliff is a fine addition to their repertoire.
Sycamore says:
Get ready to explore the outer reaches of flavor, as this hazy IPA blasts off with out of this world flavors of Yuzu, guava, sweet melon, juicy peach, and candied tropical fruit. Each sip brings a new world of flavor to explore!
Sycamore Spaceman Spliff India Pale Ale has an alcohol content of 7.1% by volume and is a seasonal offering. I paid $4.99 for my single pint can at Total Wine and it was running $14.99 a 4-pack then. My single is stamped Canned 04/09/24 Levis ’95 Ad. Not sure what the latter means.
Spaceman Spliff India Pale Ale pours to a hazy orange color with a thick fluffy white head of foam and a nose of orange juice citrus. Taking a sip, the beer is lidht to medium in body, about average as these beers go. It's juicy again with citrus, I get orange and tangerine, hints at melon fruit, and leads into a gently minty but not really better finish. It's smooth and pasty from the oats.
Overall a tasty hazy New England IPA and another triumph for Sycamore.
Glad I tried it? T
Would I rebuy it??
