Welcome to Georgia, Starr Hill Brewery of Charlottesville, Virginia! Actually, Starr Hill beers started showing up over a month ago, but as they’re featured as beer of the month at Taco Mac for April, I say we should all give them a warm welcome once again. So, welcome Starr Hill. I’m toasting tonight with a brimming mug of Starr Hill The Love, a German-style hefeweizen. If you’re like me, you’re probably wondering about that name. Fear not, dear reader, I did the research so you won’t have to, and came up with this explanation from the Starr Hill website.
A friend of mine would smuggle wheat-beer yeast back from a brewery in Germany, and he won the National Home Brewers' Competition one year with this yeast that he’d smuggled. I asked him if he would 'share the love' and let us borrow the yeast, and 10 years later he finally did.

So, there it is. I won’t go into too much detail on Starr Hill
The Love, because this beer is a fairly simple beer on the surface, and tastes a
lot like a hefeweizen should taste. It’s very, very good and quite refreshing on
a warm day. Some details are in order, though. Ingredients:
Malted Barley: Two Row, Wheat, Munich
Kettle Hops: Hallertau
Yeast: Bavarian Wheat Beer Yeast
Starr Hill The Love has an alcohol content of 4.6% by volume and a measly 9 IBUs. I paid $5.25 for a full mug pour of this beauty.
Starr Hill The Love pours to a hazy yellow color with thick foamy head and a delightful banana and clove nose. Taking a sip, I’m really feeling The Love, as that wonderful banana and clove character is strong in the palate, and blends nicely with the tart crackery wheat, smooth creaminess, slightly bready maltiness, and tart refreshing finish. Sitting on the patio at Taco Mac on a sunny 82 degree day, a day just perfect for this beer, is a bit of heaven on Earth.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
