Stopped by this Fairfield, CT brewpub Thursday night on my way to Philadelphia and a trip that would eventually take me to 8 brewpubs and beer bars. As it turned out, this stop was probably my least memorable, but in all fairness Southport had some stiff competition. The beers were decent and drinkable, but there was only one that really impressed me. The atmosphere was quite pleasant, the brewing equipment readily visible upon entrance, lots of brick and wood tones to please the eye as well. I sauntered over to the bar, a band had just finished playing. There were ten beers on tap, a respectable number to be sure. Samplers came in two flights of five.
Sasco Hill English Pale Ale: malty, not overpowering, copper in color, similar to the red, balanced finish.
From the brewery website:
Our brew master’s tribute to the ale that made Burton on Trent famous. An English style copper colored pale ale with medium body and a dry finish. Delicious! Compare to: Bass Ale, Pete’s Wicked Ale
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
