Stopped by this Fairfield, CT brewpub Thursday night on my way to Philadelphia and a trip that would eventually take me to 8 brewpubs and beer bars. As it turned out, this stop was probably my least memorable, but in all fairness Southport had some stiff competition. The beers were decent and drinkable, but there was only one that really impressed me. The atmosphere was quite pleasant, the brewing equipment readily visible upon entrance, lots of brick and wood tones to please the eye as well. I sauntered over to the bar, a band had just finished playing. There were ten beers on tap, a respectable number to be sure. Samplers came in two flights of five.
Fairfield Red: malty, satisfying, balancing hop character, grainy tasting, decent session brew.
From the brewery website:
A deep amber ale, brewed with 8 types of malted barley and 2 varieties of hops. Very drinkable with a slight caramel sweetness and a subtle bitter finish. Compare to: Sam Adams, Killian’s Red
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
