Every now and then, a beer comes along and makes you wonder “How did they do that?”. Such a beer is Southern Tier Cinnamon Roll Imperial Ale, a beer that will have you wondering if you’re sipping a brew or chewing on a fresh-baked cinnamon roll. Theme beers can be hit or miss, but they definitely got this one right, my friends.
The secret is the imperial brown ale base that works splendidly with the spice to impart the desired impression on the palate. I enjoyed a glass at Taco Mac after dinner and a few beers, and it made the perfect dessert beer-not paired with dessert, mind you, but as dessert.
From the website:
The scent of our brewery on brew days is irresistible. Akin to the morning’s first brewed batch of perfectly roasted coffee, the aromas envelope you and cause the corners of your lips to curl into the slightest unconscious smile. In this brew, lightly toasted malts with subtly spicy hops blend into cinnamon flavors and creamy lactose sugar. Their coalescence is so uncannily close to fresh baked cinnamon rolls that it was impossible to name this beer anything other than Cinnamon Roll Imperial Ale! Pairs perfectly with eggs benedict at brunch, after dinner, or next to the fire for an unforgettable nightcap.
Southern Tier Cinnamon Roll Imperial Ale has an alcohol content of 8.6% by volume and I paid $8.50 for an 11-ounce glass at Taco Mac.
Southern Tier Cinnamon Roll Imperial Ale had me going “WOW!!!!” on the first sip. Dark brown in color with a minimal head, bursting with cinnamon in the nose, it smells like a cinnamon roll does! Rich and doughy in the palate, laced with cinnamon and vanilla that delivers the icing, all with a balanced finish dried by the pungent spicy cinnamon.
This really is a cinnamon roll in a glass, my friends, and though a little pricey, this one is absolutely worth every penny. I loved it!
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
