8 Days a Week Blonde Ale

Review Date 5/14/2020 By John Staradumsky

8 Days a Week, I luh-uh-uh-uh-ove you! Oh! Hi there friends, don’t mind me, singing away to myself as I am. I’m drinking beer, you see, a beer called 8 Days a Week Blonde Ale from the Southern Tier Brewing Company of Lakewood, New York. And of course, as I sip, I couldn’t help but burst out into song with the old Beatles tune of the same name. On the theme of 8, it should be noted (another pun if you get it), that the musical symbols above are the 8th note and beamed 8th note.

These days, caught up in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, it almost seems like there are 8 days a week. One day just blends right into another sometimes, unless we find ways to break up the monotony. For me, one of them is having a few beers out on my patio, or in my garage. A great first beer of the night (or 8th beer for that matter?) is Southern Tier 8 Days a Week. It’s a beer you can drink just fine any day of the week, it’s a beer that is unpretentious, eminently drinkable, with enough flavor to keep me happy but not so much that the craft newcomer can’t enjoy it.

Southern Tier says:

With fruity notes, low bitterness and a clean finish, this refreshing beer is hard to put down. Take it with you on your infinite adventures. No matter the journey, this an ale you can enjoy 8 Days a Week.

8 Days a Week Blonde Ale has an alcohol content of 4.8% by volume (there’s another 8 and, hey, 4 is half of 8). It has 15 IBUs and Total Wine sells it for $8.99 for a, you guessed it, 8-pack (now that’s marketing!). I would have priced it at $8.88, but hey, they got one 8 in there.

Southern Tier 8 Days a Week Blonde Ale pours to a pale golden color with a good-sized head of foam and a soft bready malty nose. Taking a sip, the beer is medium to light in body with more bready malt and some crisp biscuity notes, too. It finishes balanced as you might expect. I didn’t really get the fruity notes, but I did find this to be quite enjoyable. I’d give it 4 out of 5 for the style, which is, of course, otherwise known as 8 out of 10.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
