Here’s my second beer from Kennesaw, Georgia’s second brewery: Southern Sky Brewing Company Schwarzschild Porter. The beer is named after the Schwarzschild radius of a black hole, the point at which the escape velocity for the gravitational pull of a black hole exceeds the speed of light. Now see there, beer can be bother tasty and educational.
The name is apropos, too, since the color of this beer is as back as the hole in space it alludes to. Southern Sky calls this a robust porter, and I concur.
From the label:
This
rich and robust porter is as dark as sin and as comforting as heaven. This
ale has a sweet velvety head, crisp and clean but full bodied, with heavy
tones of dark cocoa and espresso lingering into a walnut finish, and slight
fruity notes of black cherry and plum.
Southern Sky Schwarzschild Porter has an alcohol content of 6% by volume and you can get a 6-pack of cans for $9.49 at Target.
Southern Sky Schwarzschild Porter pours to a jet-black color with a towering head of short-lived tan foam (my can was a gusher) and a rich chocolaty nose. Taking a sip, the beer has a medium body with deep roasted notes, dark chocolate and a hint of cherry fruit. It finished quite roasty dry and slightly coffeeish.
This is the best beer from this brewery so far (out of two, OK), roasty, fruity, very delicious! I’ll be back for more.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
