I got this beer from Beer Across America's Big 22 club
several months ago, and have been hoarding my last bottle, but for the sake
of a review for Beer Talk, the Prodigy service's on line beer discussion
group, it will soon be history. Zonker Stout won a silver medal in the dry
stout category at the Great American Beer Festival in 1994. It's not hard to
see why. The beer pours to a jet black color with a big tan head that
stubbornly follows the brew down to the last sip. The nose is big and roasty,
and tempts the palate for the flavor explosion to come. As I take a sip, I
get bitter chocolate, coffee, and rich roasted barley. Perhaps some oatmeal?
All this leads to a nicely bitter finish essential for a good dry stout.
Excellent.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
