Smuttynose Brewing Company, Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Another installment in the Big Beer Series, which I received
from Beer Across America's Big 22 club. We don't seem to be getting these
beers in R.I. any longer, and I haven't found them yet in Massachusetts.
Beer has an agreeable orange-white color, very little carbonation,
citric-spicy nose.
Palate is dominated at first by the orange, then a hint of the coriander
comes through and gradually makes it's presence known. Finish is light and
slightly thin, but the beer is refreshing and very drinkable. All around a
very nice example of the style.
Just for fun I popped open a bottle of Hoegaarden for comparison, this beer is much paler and has much more carbonation. Other than that though the two are quite similar. The nose, palate, and finish are very close on the two beers. I'm more impressed now than before.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
