Hey Taco Mac! Who loves ya baby? You know I do. We’ve been friends a long time, though, and friends are remiss when we fail to offer constructive criticism. Here’s some for you: sometimes you don’t get your beers listings right. Case in point: The Honorable Dunkel from the Slow Pour Brewing Company of Lawrenceville, Georgia. You had this listed as a dunkelweizen (it’s not, it’s a Munich Dunkle).
In either case, dunkle means dark in German. I was excited about a dunkelweizen because, truth be told, not a lot of American brewers make them. Dunkleweizen is a dark wheat beer, and done nicely, they ae delicious. I was a little disappointed when I took a sip and immediately tasted a Munich dunkel. I quickly got over that, because not a lot of American brewers make these, either. Gotta save tank space for the 15 IPAs, after all.
Slow Pour Brewing The Honorable Dunkel has an alcohol content of 5.4% by volume and I paid $6.80 for a 23-ounce mug at Taco Mac.
Slow Pours says:
Crisp, nutty, toasted. All the things you want in a dunkel!
I say:
My mug of Slow Pour Brewing The Honorable Dunkel arrive a deep mahogany color with a thin creamy tan head of foam and a soft nutty cookie malt nose. Taking a sip, I got more toasty nutty cookie malts in the palate and a balanced finish. The Honorable Dunkel doesn’t scream dark nutty malts the way the Germans do, but they are definitely there and this is still a tasty, malty brew.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
