I received a few bottles of this beer from the Micro Beer
Club. Shortly after I received it, I posted tasting notes to a Usenet
discussion group and ended up in a debate on the beer. Skagit Brown is by no
means a bold brew, but it does have plenty of flavor. I'm a fan of big, bold
beers, but at the same time I also enjoy soft, delicate beers as well.
Indeed, in many respects they are the true test of a brewer's skills, since
flaws cannot hide behind large amounts of hops and malt.
Skagit brown has a deep brown color, rich creamy head, and an appetizing
fruity nose. The palate is smooth and creamy like an ice cream soda, with
subtle hints of burnt candy sugar, chocolate and roasted malt, eventually
giving way to a huge apple-pear fruitiness in the finish. I really enjoy
this beer, it's a great session beer and sipping brew suitable for
gatherings with friends or just sitting out on the deck enjoying the
evening.
This beer would pair nicely with a crisp salad and fresh warm bread, it
would also make a decent dessert beer.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
