What the hell is a Chairfish? That’s what I’d like to know. Taco Mac had a beer on tap while I was there called Chairfish IPA from Sierra Nevada, and since just about anything from Sierra Nevada is usually good, I ordered a glass. I don’t know anything about it and there’s not much information out there to give you much background. I e-mailed the brewery and asked them last week, but so far, no response.
Anyway, the keg label Taco Mac had on their website for the beer has it pegged at 6.8% alcohol by volume. I paid $7 for an 11-ounce glass. Untappd has it listed as “Chairfish Paleabration”. That’s all I know. If I hear from Sierra Nevada, I’ll let you know.
My glass of Sierra Nevada Chairfish IPA arrived a bright orange in color with a thick, rocky head of foam and grassy, citrusy hops in the nose. Taking a sip, the beer has chewy caramel malt, grassy and citrus malts, and a long dry bitter finish.
This is an interesting IPA somewhat reminiscent of Celebration (they have the same ABV too), though to me it does not justify $7 for an 11-ounce glass. I think I’d just drink Celebration in lie of this one, though I can’t say I wouldn’t drink it again, but not at this price.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
