Try? Re-buy?
Look what I found! Way in the back of my garage beer fridge was a bottle of Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Across the World White IPA with Yuzu, brewed in conjunction with Kiuchi Brewery of Japan. You know Kiuchi, they brew up that amazing Hitachino Next Weizen among many other fine brews.
This is my last bottle of beer from the 2017 Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Across the World 12-pack. I know it’s a little long in the tooth, but as we shall see it has held up quite well.
From the label:
Japan’s Kiuchi Brewery, makers of the Hitachino Nest beers, have an elegant take on classic beer styles with a uniquely Japanese influence. They suggested adding yuzu-an Asian citrus fruit-to a hazy white IPA and we jumped at the chance. What emerged is a hoppy yet refined version of the style with a bright citrus flavor and a spicy finish.
Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Across the World White IPA with Yuzu has an alcohol content of 7% by volume and mine is stamped PKGD 04/26/2017. I paid $24.99 for the 12-pack.
Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Across the World White IPA with Yuzu pours to a yellow white color with a spicy coriander and nutmeg nose with hints of citrus fruit. Taking a sip, the beer is tart wheat with coriander that is quickly overpowered by powerful nutmeg. I expect the spice preserved this beer, but the tart wheat runs into the finish where it ends the beer nicely with grassy hop bitterness and drying nutmeg spice.
I really love the nutmeg and citrus in the palate! I also love the White IPA collaboration for these two, bringing the IPA from Sierra Nevada and wheat beer from Hitachino. Obviously, this review is more for historical purposes since these beers one off, but if it were re-released would I buy it again? I certainly would.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
