Frosty the Hazeman Hazy IPA

Review Date 12/21/2020 By John Staradumsky

Frosty the Hazeman, had a very hazy frost….OK, I’m not gonna go there. Or maybe I just did. Be that as it may, Frosty the Hazeman Hazy IPA is my first beer from the Second Chance brewing company of San Diego, California. There’s no information on the beer on the brewery website, or anywhere else for that matter. Luckily, the label is a shrink wrap plastic job that I was able to remove and scan.

It says:

On a snow filled, hazy winter evening in December, if you look out your window at just the right time, you may be able to catch a glimpse of Frosty the Hazeman. He'll be the one chillin’ with a beer, enjoying the weather, bringing good cheer to all.

Pair: Holiday cookies, the smell of a pine tree , opening the present you always wanted.

Frosty the Hazeman Hazy IPA has an alcohol content of 7% by volume with 22 IBUs. I paid $3.59 for my can from Craftshack. It is stamped on the bottom BEST BY MAR.24.21. The beer is brewed with Amarillo, Mosaic, and Citra hops. I looked out my window on a hazy winter evening in December, but I did not catch a glimpse of Frosty the Hazeman. Perhaps it was because the evening was not snow filled. Or maybe it was just not the right time.

Frosty the Hazeman Hazy IPA pours to a hazy orange color with a thick rocky white head and a citrus orange rind nose with a hint of tropical fruit. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body, quite refreshing and citrusy, and very juicy. Tangerine and orange rind come to mind, and pineapple and papaya are layered on into a balancing bitter finish. It’s bright with citrus and tropical fruit and has a balancing to slightly more than that bitterness.

I like these beers well enough, though I am generally not wont to drink more than one in an evening. Still, this one was very tasty and a bright spot on a cold winter’s night.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
