Folks, we have a tie breaker! The Scofflaw brewery only opened about a year ago (June of 2016), so their beers are still slowly becoming more and more available. So far, I’ve tried two of them, Westside IPA (which I really liked) and Basement IPA (not so much). Scofflaw Interrogation Coffee Milk Stout would be the beer to either make or break Scofflaw for me (until their next beer comes along, anyway).
The Oxford Dictionary defines a scofflaw as:
a person who flouts the law, especially by failing to comply with a law that is difficult to enforce effectively.
Careful, Scofflaw. If you run afoul of the law, you may find yourself in the Jailhouse (brewery) in nearby Hampton, GA.
From the label:
Good for stretching the day, or the truth, this stout pours a deep brownish black with fluffy tan head that lasts a while and leaves good lace, aroma of coffee up front with notes of vanilla and dark chocolate behind. Big coffee taste with cold brew medium roast and hints of earthy dark malts behind, with a creamy, bubbly mouth. This is an easy drinking stout..
Scofflaw Interrogation Coffee Milk Stout has an alcohol content of 6.8% by volume with 75 IBUs. It runs $12.99 a six-pack at Ttotal Wine, which is high, and points off for that.
Scofflaw Interrogation Coffee Milk Stout pours to a jet-black color with a thick creamy tan head and a robust coffee grind nose. Taking a sip, the beer has a medium body, not as full and smooth as I would want in a milk stout but boy does the coffee shine. Rich dark roasty coffee, coffee grind aroma and fresh brewed dark roast coffee flavor with hints of bittersweet chocolate and a full rich roasty bitter finish.
What a wonderful beer! 4.5 stars on its own merits says I, less ½ star for the high price. OK, Scofflaw, you’re now 2 for 3. Let’s try some more of your beers….
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
