Capone's Concierge Porter

I was at Schoolhouse Brewing in Marietta, Georgia, and I wanted a beer. Just one beer, because I was driving, but I would be buying beer to take home, as well. Mind you, I had had and enjoyed their beer before, at Taco Mac. But now I was at the brewery, and I was going to have a beer.

I had expected Schoolhouse to be in a, well, schoolhouse, but this is not the case. They are located at the back of an industrial park, off the beaten path to be sure. But I found them, and now it was time for a beer: Capone’s Concierge Porter. It was tasty, delicious, and it was free! How’s that grab you?

Schoolhouse says:

This pre-prohibition porter delivers chocolate, caramel, and coffee notes. A style that dates back to the Revolutionary War and was endorsed by our first president, this malty ale offers smoothness and only subtle bitterness. Brewed in collaboration with Steve Otto of the MASH homebrew club, whose version took home the gold at Peach State Brew Off!

Schoolhouse Capone’s Concierge Porter has an alcohol content of 5% by volume with 18 IBUs. As I mentioned, my pint was free, but would have cost me $7 had I paid  for it. Cans were selling for $15 a 4-pack, pint cans I should add. How did I get my pint for free? Look to the side right of my photo of the beer, and you will see a placard with a QR code. If you install the Schoolhouse app on your phone and register, you can get a pint for free.

My pint of Capone’s Concierge Porter arrived jet-black in color with a moderate creamy tan head of foam and a nose of chocolate and roast. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body, appropriate to the style. It’s smooth and creamy and quite drinkable, chocolaty, and roasty. Notes of dark chocolate, chocolate pudding, and a hint of caramel appear before the roasty bitter finish.

Absolutely a beer I would buy again.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
