St. Bernardus Kombine 2025
Review Date 10/11/2025 By John Staradumsky
What do you get when you combine the experience of two legends in the beer world? Why Kombine, of course, a collaborative effort between St. Bernardus of Belgium and Weihenstephan of Germany. Kombine 2025 is an unfiltered Helles Lager, or a Kellerbier if you will.
Helles lagers are fairly straightforward, not complex, but delightfully bready malty when done right. The yeast here adds a bit more complexity and a richer mouthfeel, which I like to call “meaty”.
St. Bernardus says:
A first for St.Bernardus as we have never before brewed a bottom-fermented beer. Additionally, this beer does not undergo bottle fermentation, another first in our brewing tradition. And if that was not challenging enough, we also committed to brewing this according to the German Reinheitsgebot*! We used Weihenstephan’s yeast and a blend of hops from both our own and Weihenstephan.
Last year, these two breweries did a collab brew under the Weihenstephaner label: Braupakt Blonde Ale.
St. Bernardus Kombine 2025 has an alcohol content of 6% by volume and I picked up an 11.3 ounce bottle bottle for $5.99 at Total Wine. It was selling for $17.99 a 4-pack at the time. My bottle label is stamped 07-2026.
St. Bernardus Kombine 2025 pours to a cloudy yellow color with a thick fluffy white head and a nose of soft bready malts. Taking a sip the beer is medium in body and again bready, fresh baked white bread to my taste. Its meaty from the yeast, fuller in body, richer in flavor. Finishes balanced with earthy bitter hops. Yeast is subtly funky and musty, but only subtly so.
Two great breweries that brew great together. I look forward to their next joint project.
Glad I tried it?

Would I rebuy it??
