When I
first sampled Rogue smoke, I was quite unimpressed with it. Eventually I learned
that that was because the sample I tried was quite stale. Not to fret, however,
as it was Rogue to the rescue. The people at Rogue were nice enough to send me
some fresh Rogue Smoke in the 7oz. bottles. Here goes: Pungent smoky nose. The
bottle says beech and alder are used, and this is readily apparent in the nose.
Upon taking the first sip, this assessment is reaffirmed. Less smoky than some
of the German Rauchbiers I've tried, but still very apparent and tasty, right
through to the slightly bitter finish. This is more like it! Bravo Rogue!
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
