Two great tastes that taste great together-that’s how I would describe Rogue Hazelutely Choctabulous. Rogue calls the beer a “candy bar in a bottle”, and that works too. I certainly did get that impression when I sipped a glass at Taco Mac on a cold January evening. Rogue Hazelutely Choctabulous is actually a blended beer composed of Rogue Chocolate Stout and Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar. You could, of course, blend this one on your own, but why make a mess? Rogue has already done the pouring for you.
The suggestion of a hazelnut chocolate bar is certainly here, though I also got notes of Nutella cocoa hazelnut spread. Either way, Rogue Hazelutely Choctabulous is a great dessert beer, either when paired with a chocolaty delight or served as dessert itself.
From the website:
It tastes like a candy bar: dark and decadent with a rich nutty flavor up front followed by a chocolate truffle finish.
Rogue Hazelutely Choctabulous has an alcohol content of 5.7% by volume with 51 IBUs. I paid $6 for an 11-ounce glass at Taco Mac and Total Wine sells it for $8.99 a bomber bottle.
My glass of Rogue Hazelutely Choctabulous arrived a jet-black color with a thin head of creamy tan foam and a nose simply bursting with chocolate and hazelnut aromas. Taking a sip, I got smooth roasty dark chocolate, then the hazelnuts and a creamy nutty chocolaty Nutella suggestion as the flavors combine. The whole affair is dried nicely in the finish by a light dry roastiness it.
I loved Rogue Hazelutely Choctabulous and I think you will, too. Why not share a bottle with a fiend that thinks they don’t like beer? This one will convince then otherwise.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
