Father’s Day 2021! And what a great one it was. I had had my grandson, Neil, over since Friday night (he’s 7, will be 8 next month), and we had a ball together. My son Nathan was working, but he was off at 2 on Father’s Day proper and came by so we could go on a pub crawl. A mini pub crawl if you will (a brewery and then Taco Mac), but I was excited all the same! A few stops are all you need when you are with family.

The first stop on our agenda was RockSolid Brewing Company in downtown Ball Ground, Georgia. RockSolid opened its doors in December of 2020, while Covid was raging across the country. I became fully vaccinated as of April 30^th, and they went on my list of breweries to try. Ball Ground is only about 12 miles north of me, so they were now a local.

RockSolid is a brewery, not a brewpub, and they do not serve food, although there are plenty of restaurants around including a German deli across the street. They serve beer for on premises drinking and in crowlers to go, as well as soft drinks. They are family and pet friendly, and have games to keep the kids occupied. Neil definitely recommends the games here.

I went with a sampler to start out, then ordered a pint, and got a crowler to go. After finishing a sampler of four beers, I was ready for a full pint, and settled on the Tasman New Zealand Pilsner. Here’s what RockSolid says about the beer:

Named for the lush wild park on the northern tip of the Southern island of New Zealand. A base of American Pilsner malt with just a touch of white wheat provides the canvas for 100% New Zealand hops to shine. Hopped with Kohatu and NZH-107 to provide all the hoppy aroma and flavor you could want in a refreshinly light beer that you can crush.

My pint was $6.50, a 10-ounce pour will run you $4.50, and a crowler $13. The beer has an alcohol content of 4.9% by volume with 30 IBUs.

My Pint of RockSolid Tasman New Zealand Pilsner arrived a beautiful bright golden color with a tight white cap of foam and crisp biscuit malt in the nose and palate. The beer drinks fresh biscuity malty with earthy herbal grassy hops and a touch of grape. It finishes dry but gently bitter. Thanks to my son Nathan for the Fathers Day brewery visit, I enjoyed all the beers I tried here and will be back for more.
