Linger Longer Helles Lager

Review Date 7/12/2021 By John Staradumsky

Father’s Day 2021! And what a great one it was. I had had my grandson, Neil, over since Friday night (he’s 7, will be 8 next month), and we had a ball together. My son Nathan was working, but he was off at 2 on Father’s Day proper and came by so we could go on a pub crawl. A mini pub crawl if you will (a brewery and then Taco Mac), but I was excited all the same! A few stops are all you need when you are with family.

The first stop on our agenda was RockSolid Brewing Company in downtown Ball Ground, Georgia. RockSolid opened its doors in December of 2020, while Covid was raging across the country. I became fully vaccinated as of April 30th, and they went on my list of breweries to try. Ball Ground is only about 12 miles north of me, so they were now a local.

RockSolid is a brewery, not a brewpub, and they do not serve food, although there are plenty of restaurants around including a German deli across the street. They serve beer for on premises drinking and in crowlers to go, as well as soft drinks. They are family and pet friendly, and have games to keep the kids occupied. Neil definitely recommends the games here.

I went with a sampler to start out, then ordered a pint, and got a crowler to go. The third beer that I tried here was Linger Longer Lager, in the  Munich Helles style. Here’s what RockSolid says about the beer:

This is our take on a classic German style. Originally created in Munich in 1894 It was meant to compete with Pilsener-type beers. Currently the most popular beer style in Southern Germany and sure to be a Georgia favorite as well!

My 4-ounce sample was $2.50 (I got a flight of four beers for $10 you see), a 10-ounce pour will run you $4.50, a pint $6.50, and a crowler $13. The beer has an alcohol content of 5.1% by volume with 21 IBUs.

My sample of RockSolid Linger Longer Lager arrived a beautiful honey color with a tight white cap of foam. The beer is bready and biscuity with fresh malt in the nose and the palate, perhaps a bit more grassy bitter hops than the style calls for but I am really enjoying this one, especially the delightful depth of malt. This is definitely going to be a go to beer for me when I am at RockSolid.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
