Doctors Orders Barrel Aged Stout
Review Date 9/6/2024 By John Staradumsky
It’s the day before Labor Day, and I’m enjoying a really big beer while listening to my “Beer Music” playlist on Amazon Music. I assure you, though, that iy’s on Doctor’s Orders. Seriously. I can back that up. The beer I’m drinking is Doctors Orders Barrel-Aged Stout from the Rock Solid Brewing Company of Ball Ground, Georgia.
I picked this beer up on March 24th at the brewery and I am finally drinking it in, as I said, September. But hey, if you can’t hang on to a barrel-aged Imperial Stout, what can you hang onto? Then too, I have tomorrow off.
From the label:
In collaboration with the Atlanta Bourbon Society, we present an Imperial Stout aged in a 10 year old WT bourbon barrel.
According to Untappd, the barrel used was from Russel’s Reserve in Kentucky.
Rock Solid Doctors Orders Barrel-Aged Stout has an alcohol content of 13.9% by volume. A sipping beer, indeed. I paid $18.99 for my half liter bottle at the brewery, and a half star demerit for that price. That’s overpriced folks. I should get a bomber or a 750ML bottle for nineteen bucks.
Rock Solid Doctors Orders Barrel-Aged Stout pours to a pitch black color with almost no head and a rich dark fruity raisin and booze nose. Taking a sip, the beer is thick and rich, full in body and glides over the tongue luxuriantly as I sip. As I sip gently I might add, this is indeed a potent potable. A steady wave of flavors are on parade here: roasty char, dark chocolate (though less of that), wood, dark fruity raisin, boozy bourbon and the latter especially at the last. And of course, a warming alcohol finish.
No denying this is a wonderful beer.
Glad I tried it? T
Would I rebuy it??
