Bohemian Haze New England IPA

Review Date 6/21/2021 By John Staradumsky

Father’s Day 2021! And what a great one it was. I had had my grandson, Neil, over since Friday night (he’s 7, will be 8 next month), and we had a ball together. My son Nathan was working, but he was off at 2 on Father’s Day proper and came by so we could go on a pub crawl. A mini pub crawl if you will (a brewery and then Taco Mac), but I was excited all the same! A few stops are all you need when you are with family.

The first stop on our agenda was RockSolid Brewing Company in downtown Ball Ground, Georgia. RockSolid opened its doors in December of 2020, while Covid was raging across the country. I became fully vaccinated as of April 30th, and they went on my list of breweries to try. Ball Ground is only about 12 miles north of me, so they were now a local.

RockSolid is a brewery, not a brewpub, and they do not serve food, although there are plenty of restaurants around including a German deli across the street. They serve beer for on premises drinking and in crowlers to go, as well as soft drinks. They are family and pet friendly, and have games to keep the kids occupied. Neil definitely recommends the games here.

I went with a sampler to start out, then ordered a pint, and got a crowler to go. The second beer that I tried here was Bohemian Haze, a Hazy New England style IPA. Here’s what RockSolid says about the beer:

Juicy and Full bodied. Huge aroma of pineapple, mango, and coconut. Made with Mosaic, Sabro, and El Dorado hops. Drink your juice!

My 4-ounce sample was $2.50 (I got a flight of four beers for $10 you see), a 10-ounce pour will run you $4.50, a pint $6.50, and a crowler $13. The beer has an alcohol content of 6.7% by volume with 30 IBUs. My sample arrived a slightly less dark and hazy color than the Goes to Eleven Double Hazy IPA with a fluffy white head and a delicate nose of mango and peaches, more of the same in the palate with pineapple and a gently balanced to slightly bitter finish. I never got the coconut they mention and I would like a little more bitterness here, but overall I did enjoy this and could easily see myself drinking a pint at the bar.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
