Two great states that taste great together? That’s how one might describe OH-PA! Pale Ale, a collaboration beer from the Rivertowne Brewing Company of Export, PA and the Millersburg Brewing Company of Millersburg, Ohio. The beer was actually brewed in Pennsylvania by Rivertowne, and it was their concept for an Ohio-Pennsylvania collaboration brew. This is indeed the second such beer they’ve done, the first being a session pale ale with Ohio’s Buckeye brewery. Rivertowne calls this their “Beer without borders” project.
None of these beers sell beer in Georgia, of course, but I got a 16-ounce can of this beauty that I would otherwise never likely try from the beer professor himself, Dave Coulter. According to the label, this beer has an alcohol content of 4.8% by volume. Let’s see how it tastes, shall we?
Rivertowne-Millersburg Oh-PA Pale Ale pours to a bright amber color with a thick creamy head and a soft resin and citrus nose. Taking a sip, the beer has just the right amount of caramel maltiness I want up front from a pale ale, always a good start in my book. Then the hops creep up, moderate in measure with citrus peel and piney notes all leading into a pleasant lingering hop bitterness at the last.
A very enjoyable, very drinkable, solid pale ale I could drink a lot of, which is why I’m glad it comes in 16-ounce cans.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
