Romega IPA

Review Date 2/21/2026 By John Staradumsky
So, I was in Rome, and when in Rome, do like the Romans do, as they say. We had just spent several hours watching the grandkids play sports, softball and basketball to be precise. Next, we headed downtown for lunch at The Mellow Mushroom, and guess what? River Remedy Brewing is right across the street! How convenient!
I lived in Rome for a few years when I first moved to Georgia, this being almost 25 years ago now. Rome did not have a brewery then; I would have been ecstatic if they had. I might never have moved, and history might have been changed! OK, I cannot support that, but I did move to Atlanta, and now live in Canton, both of which have Taco Macs, which Rome does not. Taco Mac is a lot like cramming 60 or 70 breweries into one building, and it’s pretty hard to beat for a beer lover.
Back to River Remedy, though. I had been wanting to visit them for quite some time. Today’s the day! Truth be told, it was about 2PM, and we had a few more stops and an hour ride back to Canton, so I was not able to have a few pints onsite. What to do? Crowlers to go, of course! I bought a crowler of their French Toast Porter and the beer I am here to speak to today, RoMega IPA. Oh, and a logo pint glass, of course.
The first thing I had to figure out was how the hell to pronounce the beer. Was it RomeGA, as in Rome-juh? I had seen it spelled that way after all. Was it, Rome, Georgia IPA? How about Romee-juh? Ya know, like Rebecca? OK, that one is a stretch, but as it turns out it is none of these. It is Row-Meg-uh. Who knew?
River Remedy says:
This is a real roMEGA of an IPA! A middle ground between the juice-forward New England IPAs and the dank and bitter of West Coasts. Sweet melon, orange, pineapple, and citrus flavors mixed with a traditional hoppy bitterness.
River Remedy Romega IPA has an alcohol content of 6.5% by volume and I paid $15 for a 32-ounce crowler at the brewery.
River Remedy Romega IPA pours to a very hazy yellow orange color with a thick creamy white head and a nose of robust grapefruit and orange. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body and super juicy. I get again the citrus orange and grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple and mango all in descending order. It’s smooth and pasty with oats and finishes dry bitter with citrus peel notes and minty grassy herbal long dry lingering bitterness.
I am impressed! I do enjoy hazy juicy IPAs, but many of them are too low on the bitterness. I WANT bitterness in an IPA, the style is all about hops after all. Romega IPA delivers on both counts, and I can tell you I am a fan, and I will be back for more.
Glad I tried it?

Would I rebuy it??
