Last fall while in Rhode Island I had the privilege of spending an afternoon at Brutopia, a brewpub in Cranston. Brutopia and Revival Brewing Company are partners and I enjoyed offerings from both while there, including the wonderful Mercy Brown Imperial Ale. Revival beers are also bottled and I picked up a few to take back to Georgia with me, and one of these was Revival White Electric Coffee Stout.
Revival White Electric Coffee Stout takes part of its name from the White Electric Coffee Company of Providence, whose coffee is used in the beer. Locally made beer made with locally roasted coffee is a beautiful thing, and I’m glad I got to try this brew. I only wish I had picked up more, but sadly there’s only so much space in my trunk.
From the website:
A mix of malts -- Maris Otter from England, Chocolate, Crystal, Roasted Barley and Chocolate Wheat -- along with EKG hops and specially-roasted White Electric coffee from New Harvest roasters create a complex beverage with notes of bittersweet coffee and chocolate.
Revival White Electric Coffee Stout has an alcohol content of 8.5% by volume with 55 IBUs. I bought a single but it was running $9.99 a six-pack at Liquor Warehouse in Warwick. My bottle is notched as best by November but I drank it in March of 2016 and it was a sheer delight.
Revival White Electric Coffee Stout pours to a jet black color with a thick creamy tan head and a vibrantly robust coffee grind nose. Taking a sip, the beer is rich and smooth in the mouthfeel and just explodes with deep, dark roasty coffee grind flavor. Chocolate emerges but plays second fiddle to the coffee here, and the beer finishes very roasty bitter and just makes you want more.
Revival White Electric Coffee Stout has it all: bursting with the signature ingredient it advertises while full in body and maintain the character of an imperial stout. You know I’ll be buying this one again, and next time much more than a single.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
