Dr. Lupulin Diabolical 3X India Pale Ale

Review Date 7/14/2021  By John Staradumsky

Bwah hah ha ha! That was me after a sip of Revision Dr. Lupulin Diabolical 3X India Pale Ale. Like the insidious looking mad scientist on the label, I began to laugh in an evil fashion. Or maybe I didn’t. Who knows. I did remark, though, how much I enjoyed the beer, as you are about to find out.

What’s up with Triple IPAs these days? We have so many Imperial IPAs and Double IPAs, of course, but somebody had to top that and introduce Triple IPAs. Many of the ones that I have tried do not seem all that dissimilar to double IPAs if you ask me, but that is not the case with Revision Dr. Lupulin Diabolical 3X India Pale Ale. Here’s why:

ALC/VOL: 11.3%  |  IBU: 133

That’s from the website, on the can the IBUs are listed as “Confidential”. At 133, that’s a lot of IBUs I tell ya. Also from the can label:

The art and science of awesome. Somewhat of an anomaly, Doctor Lupulin is brewed with loads of hops but is not too bitter. An intimidating brew that is easy drink but without the heat. Is that mango having a pleasant conversation with dank? Yep. The experiment to create beer perfection is alive.

I got my pint can from Craftshack.com on 12/21/20 and paid $3.59 for it. Total wine sells it for $15.99 a 4-pack-but not in Georgia. My can is stamped as canned on 11/30/20, I hung onto this one a bit in my garage beer fridge and drank it on June 17th of 2021.

Revision Dr. Lupulin Diabolical 3X India Pale Ale pours to a gently cloudy yellow orange color with a minimal head formation on a vigorous pour and a super citrusy-tropical-dank nose. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body, perhaps leaning slightly more than medium, with dank herbal vegetal notes, tropical pineapple and mango, citrus rind, and resin; the beer is just infused with hop character! There is a bit more than gentle bitter finish and alcohol burn, though the beer is nowhere near as bitter as the IBU count suggests, although all that bitterness is balanced off by the malt here.

VERY nice indeed, a super sipper I would love to drink again. Draining the last the pineapple really came through, and the beer seemed to offer new elements with each sip. Triple IPA? It might just be a thing after all.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
