That crazy old Nolan! He just can’t make up his mind. One minute he’s a classic American style IPA full of pine and citrus, and the next he’s a hazy tropical New England IPA. Say what? You’ve never met Nolan? You should know Nolan, so let me introduce you: Nolan the Wanderer, a rotating IPA series from the Reformation brewery of Woodstock, Georgia. Soon to be of Canton, Georgia, my hometown for the past eight years.
I enjoyed a 23-ounce mug of Nolan The Wanderer 002, described by the brewery as a NEIPA, on September 9th of 2018. I’ll let them tell you more:
Soft bitterness, followed by tropical citrus notes of ripe mango, tangerine, and pineapple. Dry hopped with Mosaic, Citra, & Mandarina Bavaria.
And on the series:
A rotating seasonal with new IPA adventures every four months. See bottom of can and notes below for details. Let’s go wandering!
Since the night I enjoyed my mug of Nolan but before now as I type, Reformation has announced plans to build a large production facility in an old mill complex here in Canton. The brewery originally had planned to open here, but I recall the city council as being less than enthusiastic about a brewery here. Since then 9and in light of tax dollars following Reformation t Woodstock), Canton has become more enlightened on the subject of adult beverages. Welcome home Reformation!
Nolan The Wanderer 002 has an alcohol content of 7.2% by volume and I paid $7.15 for my mug at Taco Mac. Total Wine sells it for $11.99 a six-pack.
My mug of Reformation Nolan the Wanderer 002 NEIPA arrived a hazy orange color with a thick fluffy head of foam and tropical pineapple and citrus in the nose. A sip revealed a light to medium maltiness, pineapple and orange peel in the palate and a sharp grassy bitter finish. I like these with a little more body and a little more citrus juice, but this was tasty and refreshing.
As I type, Nolan 003 is out, and it’s a Brut IPA. Personally, I can’t wait for 007. That should be an IPA I you can really bond with.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
