Hey! What happened to my Reformation Providence Tripel? Sadly, it is no more. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, though, Providence has remerged from the Ashes as Jude Belgian-Style Tripel, which seems to me much the same beer. I've e-mailed the brewery to find out why they changed the name. I'll let you know more when they get back to me.
I always loved the name Providence Tripel. I'm from Rhode Island, the capital of which is Providence, and as Reformation is the closest brewery to me (unless you count Green Line, which I don't, because they're never open) I felt like I was close to Providence. I guess I'll just have to be close to Jude now.
From the website:
Trusts in moments of providence.
Invites the teaching of intuition.
Believes in the miraculous.
Leans on patience.
Listens to the muse.
Appreciates the silver lining.
Relies on hope in times
when answers are unknown.
Understands our place
in the “family of things.”
Celebrates a life well lived.
A moment of success finally realized
after long hours, late nights —
determined in the face of struggle
to make space for inspiration
amid the design.
See that? They mentioned Providence. Anyway, Reformation Jude has an alcohol content of 9.2% by volume, the same as Providence. Hmmm.... I paid $6 for an 11-ounce glass at Taco Mac. Total Wine sells it in 6-packs of 12-ounce cans for $11.99.
My glass of Reformation Jude Belgian-Style Tripel arrived a beautiful golden color with light crisp malt in the nose but absolutely no head. A gentle pull revealed the same pineapple fruit and spice along with funky yeast and biscuit malt in the palate. There’s drying spice and light hop bitterness in the finish, and perhaps a hint of citrus and alcohol. Carbonation was light in the palate as well. I found Reformation Jude to be a lot like Reformation Providence.
A beer by any other name would taste as sweet, and Reformation Jude certainly does. So, I won't have to miss Providence after all. Hey Jude, don't take it bad, just take a great beer, and make it better......it is in cans now after all.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
