Haddy Belgian-Style White Ale

Review Date 12/6/2017  Last Updated 4/16/2020  By John Staradumsky

Reformation Union Wit is now Reformation Haddy Belgian-Style White Ale. The name may have changed of course, but the beer is the same and just as tasty.

“In a space drunk on reinventing the wheel, Union is a restoration of the beauty of the style.” –CEO, Spencer Nix.

That's just as true of Haddy as it was of Union, of course. Union was always one of my favorite Reformation beers, spicy and delicious, crisp and refreshing. The perfect beer for Georgia summers or, really, summers anywhere. Now, Haddy takes on that mantle.

Reformation says:

Whether it’s the union of coriander & lemon peel, or the joining together of wheat malts with a refreshing tartness and clean finish, this classic style was made for moments of unity. Reach for Haddy when your favorite pastimes & people combine.

That moment your home team hits that home run. Savoring the moment when water meets land. When a shared experience makes strangers into lifelong friends.

Reformation Haddy was Reformation Union as recently as last July. It was the beer that earned me my 1000th credit at Taco Mac, earning the Chancellor distinction. More importantly, it entitled me to more beer for the same price. Haddy will always remind me of that night.

Reformation Haddy has an alcohol content of 4.8% by volume and I paid  $6.50 for a full mug pour recently. I got a free Reformation logo glass with my purchase, as Haddy was one of the featured beers of the month for November. It runs $9.49 a six-pack in cans at Target.

My mug of Reformation Haddy Belgian-Style White Ale arrived a slightly cloudy yellow color with a medium head of  foam and pungent coriander and bright citrus rind in the nose. Taking a sip, the beer has tart wheat up front with loads of coriander spice, bitter citrus lemon-orange and pungent dry spice. There’s a big hit of very tart wheats in the finish, too.

Reformation Haddy is a wonderful refreshing brew that's a staple chez Bruguru. After all, a beer by any other name would taste as sweet.

Update 4/16/2020: Swung by Reformation brewery in Woodstock for some beer, including a six-pack of Haddy Belgian Style White Ale. We've been on Coronavirus lockdown for about 6 weeks now and I wanted to throw some business Reformations' way; curbside to go service made that possible. Popped a can this evening and it is as delightful as ever, with pungent spice and bright citrus all wrapped around a fresh bready and crisp wheaty center. Deliciousness for $10.00 a six-pack.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
