Reformation Fireman Collab Habanero Rye

Review Date 4/18/2020  By John Staradumsky

Here’s a quick review of a beer I picked up curbside at the Reformation brewery in Woodstock, Georgia. It was listed under the crowlers drop down box at the Woodstock location.

Variation: Fireman collab - Habanero Rye IPA - very subtly spicy (32oz crowler)

I’m not sure what the Fireman collab meant, was that Firewaters Brewery in Kennesaw? I’m sure I don’t know. I had to add the beer to Untappd because it wasn’t listed. I e-mailed the brewery but never got a reply.

I know I paid $11 for my crowler, and I know from the label it has an alcohol content of 6.8% by volume.

Reformation Fireman Collaboration, a habanero rye IPA, pours to a bright orange color with a thick fluffy head and a soft rye and fruit nose. Taking a sip, the beer has a medium caramel maltiness appropriate to the style, I’m definitely getting a hint of spicy rye, but the habanero is lacking. Just a touch of heat in the finish, but only a touch and you do have to look for it. Hops were lacking there, too.

Overall, this is disappointing, a rare miss from Reformation. It’s a quaffable India Pale Ale, but I would like more rye, and hey, if you tell me there are going to be habaneros, there better be habaneros.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
