Favorite Things Milk Stout
Review Date 12/27/2024 By John Staradumsky
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream-colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells, and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
The above, of course, are part of the lyrics from Julie Andrews classic Christmas song My Favorite Things from The Sound of Music. And indeed, these are some of my favorite things, especially when they are copper brew kettles, pony kegs, and the brown paper packages contain bottles of beer. Which will go quite nicely with some schnitzels with noodles.
This year, though, I have a new favorite thing: Favorite Things Milk Stout from the Reformation brewery of Woodstock, Canton, and Smyrna, Georgia. Reformation is one of the very closest breweries to me. Reformation says:
Tis the season for our Favorite Things! Sip into this classic Milk Stout with notes of chocolate & hints of vanilla. Roasty, but balanced (contains lactose). Available everywhere our beer is sold from Nov-Dec while supplies last.
Reformation Favorite Things Milk Stout has an alcohol content of 4.9% by volume and I paid $11.99 for a six-pack at Total Wine, which is not a bad deal these days. My cans are stamped CANNED ON 11/7/24.
Reformation Favorite Things Milk Stout pours to a dark brownish black color with a tight tan cap of foam and an inviting nose of dark roast and smooth chocolate. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body, about what I want from a milk stout. It’s rich and chocolatey and creamy from the lactose and that calls forth images of chocolate pudding with the skins on like your mom used to make on the stovetop. It finishes with more of the roast and some grassy bitter hops and that dries the beer nicely, but even with that a kiss of sweetness pokes through at the last.
Tasty, indeed, and hey, beer is a few of my favorite things.
Glad I tried it? T
Would I rebuy it??
