Hi, I’m John, and I’m a jogger. Seriously, I am, I love to jog, run and walk. Look, if you’re going to drink as much beer as I do, you better get out there and burn some of those calories off. And guess what? The Reformation brewery of Woodstock, Georgia (and soon to be Canton!) has beer just for people like me: JOGR Lager.
JOGR stands for juicy lager, which is to me a contradiction in terms. Lagers are cold fermented and cold conditioned to keep them from being juicy. But hey, there are precedents (like American steam beer) of hybrid lagers with subtle fruit. What does Reformation say about their JOGR?
Amarillo & Citra dry hopped, this pale lager has a drool inducing juicy hop character with notes of orange, melon, and grapefruit. Beer run basics. (1) Warm up. (2) Stretch those legs. (3) And most importantly, stay hydrated. Run responsibly. Drink JOGR.
Reformation JOGR has an alcohol content of 4.9% by volume. I paid $6.80 for my 23-ounce mug at Taco Mac.
That mug of Reformation JOGR Juicy Lager arrived a bright orange jello color with a thick head of foam and soft malt and fruit in the nose. Taking a sip, there are delicate malts and stone fruits (peach) in the palate, citrusy orange notes and a balanced finish.
I enjoyed JOGR Lager and would certainly drink it again, but truth be told I prefer my lagers more traditionally. With so many juicy IPAs out there I’m not sure of the need for a juicy lager. Hedonistically, though, it definitely satisfied.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
